SCORE is now recruiting for corrections officer positions at the new SCORE site. Public Safety Testing ( www.publicsafetytesting.com ) will facilitate the testing for both entry level and lateral corrections officers.

Non-corrections officer position openings will be posted on this page when available.

Salary and benefit information will be posted when available.


Selection Standards for SCORE Corrections Officers


Minimum Standards:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age upon hire.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Minimum education: proof of high school diploma or a certified GED.
  • A valid Washington State Driver's License is required prior to being hired.
  • Ability to read, write and speak the English language.
  • Ability to pass the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission Physical Requirements.
  • Ability to successfully complete the written test.
  • Ability to successfully complete a background investigation. To include but not limited to: a psychological, medical and polygraph exam.
  • No felony convictions as an adult.

 

Lateral Corrections Officers


Lateral applicants are required to pass the written test, physical fitness test, and oral board. If selected, the lateral applicant will undergo a comprehensive background investigation. Upon completion of the background, a determination to hire will be made by the Corrections Director.

To be considered as a lateral, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Three years experience in a correctional institution with less than a twelve-month break in service.
  • Completion of the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission Correctional Academy.
  • If you have completed the academy and do not meet the three-year experience requirement due to being laid off but are re-hireable, you will be considered as a lateral applicant on a case-by-case basis.


Automatic Disqualifiers:


Driving:

  • Three or more traffic crime convictions in last 5 years (DUI, Suspended, Reckless, etc).
  • Suspension of driver's license within past 10 years.

Drug Use:

  • Illegal drug substance usage or exposure within past 5 years.
  • Illegal use of illegal drugs in the last 5 years.
  • Illegal use of ANY controlled substance while employed in a criminal justice capacity.
  • Illegal opiate use.
  • Hallucinogen use within past 7 years. No more than 2 uses total.
  • Illegal use of 3 or more different controlled substances.
  • Other drug use outside these standards will be considered on a case by case basis.
  • No illegal sale of ANY drug, including marijuana.
  • Illegal use of dangerous drugs or narcotics, other than marijuana, for any purpose more than 3 times in lifetime, and no use within the past 5 years.
  • Pattern of illegal use of prescription medication.

Please note the time frame on the above listed items starts when filling out the application for employment.


Criminal Activity:

  • Any adult felony conviction.
  • Any misdemeanor, or felony conviction while employed in a criminal justice capacity.
  • Adult misdemeanor convictions will be carefully reviewed.
  • Juvenile felony conviction will be carefully reviewed.
  • Any conviction of any crime under a domestic violence statue.
  • Unlawful sexual misconduct.

Employment:

  • Three or more terminations, or leaving employer in lieu of termination.
  • Been dishonorably discharged from the United States armed forces.
  • Lied during any stage of the hiring process.
  • Falsified his or her application, personal history questionnaire, or any other forms during hiring process.

Financial:

  • Failure to pay income tax or child support.
  • Current credit accounts, or unresolved accounts in collection will be carefully reviewed.

Prior Criminal Justice Agency Experience:

An applicant's employment history and conduct will be thoroughly assessed including any illegal drug use while employed by a criminal justice agency, any terminations or discipline while employed by a criminal justice agency, and any intimate contact with inmate(s), former inmate(s), or detained individuals while employed by a criminal justice agency.


Below is one of SCORE's grooming and appearance standards:

Tattoos: Tattoos may not be visible while in uniform. Members who have body art that go beyond the hem of the sleeve of a short sleeve uniform shirt, shall be required to wear a long sleeve shirt while on duty. Tattoos on the face, neck and hand region are prohibited.
